The area presently known as Brecksville was first settled in 1811. It was named after Colonel John Breck who purchased parts of the land in 1807. Seth Payne, the land agent of Colonel Breck, was one of the early settlers of Brecksville. In 1921, the village of Brecksville was formed. Later, in 1960, Brecksville was reincorporated as a city.
