Rocky River is an affluent community along the shores of Lake Erie in western Cuyahoga County. The city is named for the river that forms its eastern border. The city is also bordered by Lakewood past the river to the East, Fairview Park to the South, and Bay Village to the northwest and Westlake to the southwest.
There are about 9,709 households with a total population of about 21,000 people. The per capita income is around $35,000 while the median income for families is over $94,000.
There are several distinctly different neighborhoods in Rocky River. The Beachcliff area is on the North side with comfortable, older, more distinguished homes, many with views of Lake Erie. There are newer homes on the south side that represent a more contemporary way of life. Between these two areas are more moderately priced, yet nice, homes.
There are three high schools in Rocky River: Rocky River High School, Lutheran High School, and Magnificat High School. All are highly regarded with a high percentage of graduates going on to college.
While shopping is limited to specialty shops along Detroit and Center Ridge Road, there are many fine restaurants. Among these are The Rockcliff, Salmon Daves, and Tartine Bistro. There are many other places such as the Beachcliff Tavern, Linden Tavern, The Woods, Herbs, and The Pub.
